Default moorish gecko

hi there i am new to reptile keeping and could use some handy tips

i have just brought a moorish gecko today and i am not sure if i have set my tank up good enough i.e. my heat mat is under the sand is this ok or is it better on the side of the tank inside?
also he hasnt eaten yet and i am worried bout it could this be due to him being stressed being in a new enviroment ect?

many thanks
chris

he wont eat on his first day..you should let him settle in for a few days before trying to feed..i duno much about these geckos so someone else will have to help you with the mat..but get him off sand..use papertowel as substrate as sand can cause impaction..good luck and pics of your setup would probably help people in sorting out your setup

On the floor on the viv is fine but as I said on your other thread, if you are looking at substrate then IMO use something like slate tiles, they are happier on a rocky service.

They are best to feed in the evening and also lots of places for them to hide, plenty of foliage, rock caves etc
