Default monitor lizard rescue 2010

hello everyone out there in rep world in the next year my reptile keeping will be going through a lot of changes and my vision is to open my doors as a monitor specific rescue and i do mean monitors only!!! i know it sounds very unfair on all the other reps out there that need but to many times have i been to rescues and monitors that have been rescued are in tiny vivs with very little space and in the worst case kept in a mesh cat carrier with a heat lamp balanced on top i do not blame owners of these rescues as i know with the volume of reps the get in from rspca etc they find it hard to cater for such reps they cant really make a massive in enclosure for just one lizard and i understand this but i plan on only using big enclosures hence my vivs will be a minimum of 6long 4deep 2high with a max size enclosure of 10long 5deep 3high all animals i take in will be kept until a suitable home has been found vetted and the new owners knowledge assesed and obviously have a suitable enclosure for the monitor they are hoping to rehome
i would like for people to come and see my monitors and how they are kept to reassure people they are in safe hands
im looking for constructive input and would like to know what people think of my idea its been something i have wanted to do since taking on my first nile monitor when i was seventeen a skinny little runt of a nile and now years on and just under 6 foot he is still going strong
thanks for reading
regards martin

Bump up for a good cause, Good luck. Think it's a brill idea. Be aware it might be slow at first but if word of mouth gets round that you're good, you'll make it work =]
Good luck.

Wonderful cause - but I can see that being horrifically expensive in livefood bills, particularly with you taking on large monitors. Three big lizards (plus two skinks) is about our limit of what we can feed correctly!

Default monitor

luckily i am very good friends with a fair few reptile shops and a few rep food suppliers so hopefully i can keep the food bills down as much as poss but im not expecting it to be cheap and i plan on being able to cater for 20 large monitors at any one time and and around 15 small to medium size monitors and as kimmie has said i have other people that monitors can go to for hold should i not have space which im hoping is not going to be a problem as im am hoping there are not that many that need my help
