I want people to not be dicks, i know I know it's damn hard, but we have to work together and I think we might be able to do this! Some wont, but it's in their nature or nurture I suppose, kinda like House on House MD but not as funny... Let's use an example below though.....education time folks! OP says his leo hasn't been eating properly for the last few weeks and looks like it's getting skinny, should he take it to the vet, he don't know... He posts a picture, the leo is on woodchips and has a basking lamp... Classic RFUK response: Of course you fucking idiot! Your a cruel bastard! and OMG why do you have it on woodchips and they should have a hea tmat not a basking spot! DAMN YOUR STUPID! OP: but pet shop said it's all ok RFUK response: "omg you idiot! Why the hell didn't you before to pick up a book or google leopard gecko! It's all wrong!!! Response which is more...I dunno human? Yes you should certainly take it to the vets. I see it's on woodchippings, that's actually a bad substrate to use and it may well have accidently swolled some and become impacted. It'll need vet treatment right away. A better substrate would be newspaper as it's easy to clean or for a lightly more natural look you could buy sandstone effect tiles from somewhere like B&Q. Basically you want to avoid a substrate which they can accidentally ingest. Also you have a basking light and I can't see a heat mat. Leopard geckos absorb heat through their underside really. You need a heat mat on a stat not a spotlight. OP: Oh ok thanks, but the pet shop said the wood and lamp were ok... Good response: The problem is pet shops often aren't that good at getting the individual care requirements for different lizards correct. There's some good care sheets in the care-sheet section above or sleepydee has a good in depth one. Here's a link to it: Leopard Gecko Care Sheets Book a vet appointment ASAP and try to make sure it is a reptile vet. Post on here what they've told you once you've been, keep us updated and I hope your gecko gets better.

I think its dead already, the only times I've ever seen the bladder stand out like that is in dead animals, as with the stiffness when inverted.
Has no-one considered that the animal is already dead, and the OP as part of the natural grieving progress is denying it and seeking help? When I worked in a vets we would get people coming in with a dog/cat that was quite obviousley dead, asking us to do something for them, this form of denial is common and part of the grieving progress, showing the OP does have feelings for the animal. if it isn't dead it will be soon I believe, sorry to be pessimistic. Take note though, the OP has only had that leo three weeks and for a healthy leo to get to that weight it takes a lot longer, unless its something like crypto or coccidia, in which case the leo was ill when bought. Get it to a vets OP if its still alive, or give it to someone who can, there's nothing more anyone on here can do for you. |

how about rather than saying 'you idiot' 'you should be ashamed' blah blah blah you give advice so the person actually wants to come back, if people get slated/put down what makes you think they're actually going to want to come back when an animal is suffering
