Default lizards that dont eat

im asking about a mate who has a load of leopard geckos, all fit and healthy (you will be pleased to know), all apart from 2 of them. both females. he said they were fine until 4/5 week ago, aparently they both used to eat mealies and waxies, but now they havent eaten for a few weeks................they dont live together. he said they were wormed but nothing in their poo.(fecals done). he said they havent lost weight and they are still running around.

i told him , that id had 1 a while back that didnt eat, but then i put her favorite hide back to where it was and she ate again, and mine is still eating.
but he is worried about them, so i said id ask on here.

has anyone else had this with leo geckos please. thanks

It is realitively common for female leopard geckos to do this. Sometimes it happens at ovulation. Other times for no apparent reason or as winter starts even though the temps haven't changed in the enclosures. When it first happened I freaked out but I did some research and it is pretty common. Currently, one of my females has not eaten anything substansial for 3-4 weeks. She had a nice fat tail to start with and you can see it has thinned out a bit but I am not worried yet. I saw one person post that she had a female that would sometimes go on a 1-2 month hunger strike.

I just make sure there is water always avaliable as well as food. If you have had everything else checked and it is fine then there is not much you can do except wait it out. The first time it happened I tried every feeder imagineable and got no response. Then one day she just started eating again.

I am not saying that there isn't something else wrong but I have seen it happen a few times. If temps are fine, she is healthy and fat, and it has been checked it might just be a hunger strike. It happens occasionally with some animals. If he has a scale I would watch the weights and if she isn't back on food in a couple weeks and/or has lost a bunch of weight I would take her back to the vet.
