Default Best substrate for Leopard Geckos?

I currently have my 2 leo's on slate tile. Because the Viv is made of wood, the heat mat is inside the Viv, underneath the tiles, with a mat stat.

Is this okay? I know calci-death is lethal to Dragons, but I keep seeing Geckos on sand, and I'm starting to feel like the slate tile may not be the best thing for them.

Smile Kitchen roll

We have used couci sand and normal sand and found that after a few week it starts to become very smelly, We now use kitchen roll as its cheap to buy and easy and quick to change.

nothing wrong with slate,i use lino its easy to wipe out and the heat mat is perfect underneath it,but its personal choice really lots of people do use sand and its said if you have good husbandry then it will be fine but i personally wouldnt take the risk

I Use Lino. Like Bathroom And Kitchen Stuff. Works A Charm, Easy As Hell To Clean (Quick Wipe Over). Allows Heat To Easily Come Through, Spot On
