the croc monitors enclosure was temporary and i now in their reptile reserve in a much larger cage. I also like the pied yemens but when i was talking to one of the workers the said they arnt selling well because their genetic gene pool is so unstable so they said they wont be getting to many more in and they are better of with normals. Coldblooded is a great shop and i have bought all my reptiles from there and i havent had ay problems in 6 years goin there

Glad to here that mate. Some temp enclosure, it was in there at least five years as far as i can remember . It really wasn't a good advert for potential newbie monitor keepers imo.

Default Disappointing visit

I have worked in two pet shops from Petsmart to a small business that in 15 years I have seen the owner become a multimillionaire to my envy, he is generally expensive but gives discounts to his regular customers and is a fine businessman. He has also kept exemplary husbandry standards of all his animals.

I am a keen animal keeper and have breed reptiles as a hobby in my youth but stopped when I joined the British Army at the age of 18. I have been a Police Officer for 7 years in London and Australia and I have seriously contemplated opening a pet shop as it is my main interest and hobby. I understand it is a difficult time for pet shops, especially specialist reptile shops which are few and far between and getting the balance between profit, running cost and maintenance is very difficult. If you however get it right and build up a good reputation and standards it is a very lucrative and rewarding business.

I am aware that Cold-blooded probable rescue a lot of unwanted reptiles and have a large pair of pythons and dwarf crocodiles that would attract future reptile enthusiasts to look around there shop. I indeed made my partner late for work and travelled 20 miles to see this shop and its content and waited for 45 minutes for the shop to open at 11 on the recommendation of a satisfied customer.

I was surprised and excited to see the wide variety of reptiles but after a full look I realised a 2 year old male Picasso that should take centre stage, which I was considering paying full retail price. (As a tight fisted person) looking very sad in a very small enclosure where his perch was no more than 2 inches from the ground.

A main concern for most new customers would be care and maintenance of unusual pets. Cold Blooded has by far got the most extensive range of animals that would entice any would be reptile keeper, and as a specialist shop should be setting the husbandry standard. I must say the animals appear healthy and husbandry for that amount of unique and varied reptiles must be a mammoth task.

My partner who has only been introduced to retiles for two months since I have rekindled my interest in Panther Chameleons now shares my enthusiasm for Chameleons felt sad when she left the shop.

Cold Blooded have an amazing collection of animals but the shop is filthy and it made us sad to see the lizards through dirty glass and sat in muck and some kept in undersized vivs. I understand this is a contreversial debate and someones livelyhood but if standards are not challenged they cannot change and Im sure Coldblooded would want to improve there husbandry and set the standards for new reptile keepers.
