Default The cost of keeping beardies

Hey there.

We have 3 9/10 week old beardies. My husband sorted out buying the feeds and the lighting ect, I just fed and handled them. Unfortunitly he's had to take a little holiday at her magistys pleasure and im left with the reps (and 2 kids) and a little panic stricken on heating and buying the right amount of ect.
All i want to know from this post really is, should they be costing me 12.00 per week? its seems alot to me. There going through a tub of size 4 crickets every 2 days, am i over feeding?
They have constant fresh veg and fruit which there constantly at too.
Cheers
H

Hi

They are still babys so yes they do eat alot, I've just have 27 babys and they eat me house and home, I would say always have greens for them, I breed my own food for my Bearded Dragons because they eat so much but not everyone can do this.

So yes they will cost a bit for food.

sounds like you'd be better buying in bulk. As i don't think this site is affiliated with a shop (could be wrong so apologies if i am) but places like livefoods.co.uk will do you 75 - 100 for £1.94, 375 - 500 for £6.94 and 750 - 1000 for £11.50 which obviously works out cheaper than buying a tub down the petshop... there are other online places to check too.

You've got 3 beardies and say 100 crickets in 2 days. that works out to around 16 crickets a day each so i wouldn't say you're over feeding.

I could be wrong cos i'm trying to remember Kato at 10 weeks but size 4 crickets sounds a bit big for a 10 week old.

Just a thought it will cost you less if you buy bulk.

Thankyou.

The size 4 is quite small, but they always come in different sizes. They cost me 2.95 a tub, am i over paying? How reliable is livefoods, do they all come alive?
Also, how long do crickets live in the tubs? Ive been putting fruit and veg in there with them (anything beardies eat).
Thanks again.. BB calls lol ill check back later

most would say 2.95 is quite expensive but the nearest rep/pet shop to me charges 3.00!!!!!!.but at livefood uk its 1.94 a tub.

and crix will!!!! live longer in a cricket keeper, just make sure theres not to many to a tub and they have water(soked sponge/paper towel) and fruit/veg.

You will probably get double the crickets for your money if you buy from livefoods.co.uk - if you go the extra haul and buy 2 weeks at once, and put them in a large container with some food, you will save even more money.

Can't believe my customers keep telling me £2 a tub is expensive on livefood
