Default Crestie Substrate

I was just wondering what everyone uses as substrate in their adult crestie vivs. Ive got eco earth in my males tank but everytime he goes for a cricket hes getting a mouthful of dirt. Ive tried flattening it all down but its not much better

I use big flat river rocks with moss growing on them. I found a great thing for my other tanks though (ecoearth sub). Have you seen the sheet of pebbles you can get at places like poundland? its like a square of plastic coated string mesh with smooth stones attached to the top. Well i put those on top of the ecoearth, and sprinkled a little ecoearth on top to cover the mesh and hey presto! dirt, pebbles (stuck down too so no chance of swallowing it although theyre too big anyway) and no big mouthfuls of dirt

i use Zoo Med repti bark. I was using eco-earth but i also found the crestie seemed to scoop up too much if he caught a cricket. The repti bark holds humidity well, looks good and if mine gets a bit in his gob he seems to spit it out easily because of its size.

When I hadcresteds i found they would always get mouthfuls of substrate and so fed them in a seperate viv or by hand if they were tame enough!
