It could work but would be totally unreliable, just make your own incubator if your worried about the price of proper ones!
Surely you would want the best for your eggs after your reps hard work

a poly box from your pet shop, they give them away, a heat mat which you could stick to the lid, digital thermometer/hydrometer for accurate temps and humidity and thermostat connected to the heat mat

In a word, yes, That's how I incubate my Leopard Gecko eggs, simply seal off the laying box, (ice cream tub filled with a layer of sand and moss) and leave in the terrarium. They appear to incubate for female as well.

I have also heard of Yemen's being incubated in ice-cream tubs in an airing cupboard!

Before you could get good stats ( around early 1980's ) we used to incubate in an airing cupboard and did well. You do better with a poly box, heater and good stat.

ive used an airing cupboard before and it was successful for leo eggs. I have 2 eggs in there at the moment.

I check temps with digital thermometer and the temp ranges from 80 - 84 throughout the day.
