Well i'm going to be picking up my beardie beggining of next month and am just wondering what i should put it in on the way home.

The reason i ask is that i live up in cumbria, and i'm getting it from my hometown in stockport which is about a 2 hour drive, so i'm just wondering what type of container to put it in and what to do to make it feel as relaxed as possible.
Any suggestions will be appreciated!

when I collected my Leos I had a similar drive home. I used an insulated bag (you know, the type that keeps cold foods cold and hot foods hot). I filled a hot water bottle, wrapped it in a towel (triple thickness) and put it in the bottom of the bag. Then put the containers (I use hamster carriers) with the Leos on top and zipped it closed.

Two toasty warm leos all snuggled up when we got home.

... When I got my BD on Saturday, only a half hour drive home, but so the little guy didn't get too cold, I put the heating on full whack! Good way of shedding a few pounds I'll tell ya!

not sure if this would work.

you could get an extension cable, cut the plug off and wire it to your car battery and stick a heatmat to the side of the container its in. As its only running on 12v it won't be getting the full effect of a heat mat without a thermostat.

OR.. a more sensible and not experimental way. If you pick it up and travel back late evening you won't need much heat. As you can drop to 65f at night which is 18.3c the chances of you having the car lower than that will be pretty slim. You should be able to transport without additional heat and then straight into the viv and put him her straight to bed.

nice idea, but i can see that ending in tragedy somehow lol. Wonder if you could wire a heat mat up to a cigarette lighter adapter thing?

Thanks for the offer mate, but i think i've got some polystyrene in my garage which i'm going to line a small box with. I'm pretty sure the heat of the car will be plenty now i come to think about it.

Thanks for the help guys.

Meko's idea would be okay if there was a power-inverter used to convert the 12VDC output of the battery to the 240VAC the heatmat's designed for. Here's one: Ring In-Car Mini Inverter 75w - Porta-Charge

there wouldn't be much difference using a cig lighter, all that is really is giving you a proper plug.
Only reason i suggested the above is because i did the same to wire a Freeview box from Asda into my car (now i just need to tune it in)
