I have two beardies they are both about 5 months old 1 male and 1 female the female has not been eating much as of late and the male has well out grown her now. I went to the pet shop were i got them and they said to put the male on a diet so the female can catch up on size i was just wondering in there info i got was correct. she is still very active and the pet shop said she looks healthy an is fat enought so dont worry too much. What do you think.

They are in same viv but i have tried with her in another viv but she still did not eat much. she seems happier in the same viv. I have been taking him out while i feed her now, but it doesnt seem to make a difference.

try taking her out while you feed her. If there's a domination issue she's still in the same surroundings and he could be in a hide waiting to jump out and steal the food.
if she's somewhere else she may feel its safe to what she wants. If you move her to a new viv she'll have the usual relocation stress and may not eat for a while anyway.

you can try different feeding area like hand feeding her. I wouldn't suggest putting him on a diet, because one - it would be nigh impossible unless you hand feed them both and if you're doing that you may as well feed them the same amounts.
One possible outcome from housing them together at such a young age is that you'll prematurely breed your female. The male will mature sexually quicker than the female and will breed with her before she's ready. This can do a lot of damage and could even possibly kill her. If you want her to fatten up then try her in another viv. You say she hardly ate anything but how long did you keep her in there before you put her back with the male? She could have just been settling. |

a week could have been a bit soon. She's been moved and getting used to a new viv, relocation stress can take a while.
Try putting her in the new viv with a couple of crickets then back in her old one till she gets used to the new surroundings. When i moved mine in to a new viv i'd put him in for feeding, then back in his old one and before i moved him in permanently i didn't feed him for a couple of days so he was hungry when he got to the new one and ate straight away in it.
