Angry iguanas and bad reputations

quick rant as this has been buggin me for ages (PLEASE READ)

rite this really winds me up that iguanas have such bad reputations as i own one myself and she is brilliant (a attention seeker but brilliant lol)and all you hear broadcasted everywhere not aimed at anybody on here is bad stuff about them and imo its not the iguanas its the bad owners as they do not do proper research buy one and then let em go in wild or just ditch em and thats what gives them bad names and also there high numbers in rehoming centers and it annoys me as these beutifull lizard s are getting something they do not deserve.if these of owners did there research then maybe theyd get to se ethe true beuty of these animals and i understand taht some of it is down to pet shops getting them in and giving bad advice but really they should also do other research.where i got mine from the owner had no guard on light only a 2% uv she was in a glass cube with barely any height at all no climbing branches or nout just a more terrestrial snake setup tbh and makes me think of what other conditions they are being kept in not just iggys but all reps the conditions they may be kept in many homes it makes me quite sick thinking about it.
and i also think that very high percentage of the time as another member pointed out to me 2 secs ago on msn taht if you get a young oe theres a good 95% chance tehy will be lovely

rite rant over sorry bout the essay jus thad to get it off my chest and would also like to say i respect all you animal rescuers on here who take in these lizard sand many otehr repps and animals as what you imo is amazing and i have alot of respect for you peopel as withought you tehse beutiful creatues would be released into the wild

bad keepers= not so pleasant adult animals in my opinion.

I dont think the amount of iggys in rescue centres means anything other than a lot of people have given them up...those who are re-homed and sho wbad attitude i think is liekly down to neglect in its old home.

i think iggys are lovely lizards.

being so cheap here is what really mess things up in the states... a serious throw away pet. they used to give them away at carnivals i remember.... sad how so many died because of their cheapness.

Just one thing i'd mention, our iggy(well my dads), was perfect in everyway until adulthood, still perfect with me and my dad, but the issues arose when either my sister or mum came on(horrible thought), at those times of the month, the temperament changed and it was seriously aggressive

I do know of many female keepers who(through no faullt of their own), struggled with them, that wasn't down to being poor keepers, that was hormones

Me and dad didn't mind cause we got left alone

Whilst it's true that they do have a pretty bad reputation, in a way surely that's a good thing? It stops people from just buying them, only to throw them away again after a year when they are grumpy through being mis-treated/not given the attention they need. However, the few people who can give them the time and conditions that they need - such as yourself - aren't put off by just a reputation, and speak to people who already own them, and discover that the reputation isn't justified. I think if they had a reputation for being loving and cuddly, then far more people would get one and not be able to cope with it.

babies are misleading to people... everyshop should have a full grown one so that people can see the beasts that they become... they aren't anoles, that's for sure!

thats a fair point you raie there actually i spose i never thought of it like taht thankyou for sharing taht hades dragons taht made me think now i think your rite and i know what your saying about the rehoming but i just wish people could understand there not in there through no fault of there own unless as like cc sed its a female keeper whos one turns agreesive on taht time and the keeper may think its turned bad and take back and well then spose iggys fault but then only through their natural instincs so neithers really i spose but more so the iggys this seems to be a very complex subject and its really pulling me in now lol
