There are different types of UV setups for different length tubes. I think theres 3 different sizes?

depending on height..... we use a 100w for a 4x2x2 viv and a 75w in a 3x2x2... if your vivs are a little narrow or not so high, bring the wattage down by about ten... get yourself a stat and you cant go wrong...

I had been using a 100 watt basking lamp in our 3ft viv, but today it blew.

As a temporary measure (as the pet shop was closed) I put in a 40 watt standard ASDA spotlight, and put the probe from the thermometer in at the BDs basking spot. I didn't stat it at first as I didn't think it would get anywhere near the right temperature!!

I was surprised that it got up to 115 degrees F, which is well enough for a BD (110F is the recommended temp), as I'd only put the probe in as I thought it would be too cold in there!!! Even the cold end was spot on for temp, reaching 86 degrees F!!!

Moral of the story is, start lower, and if you aren't quite reaching the temps, get a higher wattage. I for one wont be buying any expensive 75 / 100 watt repti bulbs when a £1.50 ASDA 40 watt bulb is doing the same job to great effect!!

I've never bought normal spot bulbs from a reptile shop they are the same as the ones from asda or any other cheap place just repackaged.

No confusion, you can use a normal spot bulb, you're just paying for the name on the box when buying 'reptile spot bulbs'.
