Default FEEDING MY BEARDIE BLACK CRICKETS???

My beardie is now around 10-12 weeks old & the guy in my local reptile store advised me to start feeding black crickets because they have a higher nutritional value than brown one's.

Is this true?

well the guy i go to get my crix from told me theres no difference other than the brown ones tend to be faster and so far hes never given me bad advice thru feeding diff ones ive never really noticed a diff but if u have a beardie on the lazy side either the black ones will make life a little easier or the brown ones will make him move more

depends what you prfer

as far as i'm aware they are basically the same nutrional value.

just brown crickets tend to be cowardly little freaks and run and hide under the most annoying of places, far away from your BD, where they sit there and die of starvation and dehydration - not to mention they are ugly little things.

i prefer black, they don't look as bad (still ugly but better than brown), they tend to be naturally bigger and aren't as fast, but they are noisy which can be annoying.

don't know about other people but i used to get slightly more brown cricks for my money than black so that might be worth looking into.

but my first BD generally prefered black crickets to brown - until you discovered the amazing taste of locusts lol

blacks are bigger so for pound per pound are better nutritionally however they are also slightly harde to digest and more aggresive then browns but slower.

i prefer browns over blacks tbh.

For what its worth, I think Blacks are evil little gits and will never use them again.

one black std, overnight, chomped the foot of a leopard gecko, I know, cos I caught it in the morning.

Only a personal experiance, and maybe I wont be belived, But the experiance was enough for me.

oo ouch! i believe you, its adviseable always to remove any uneaten livefoods from a viv at lights out otherwise the little **** will have a nibble at your rep, blacks are aggressive and often have a go a BDs so its possible for one to decapitate a limb off a young gecko

I would never use black crickets. I always try to make sure every one has been removed at lights out time but theres been plenty of times they have sqeezed into the little holes in the bark wood etc and without completely empting the viv theres no way I can be 100% sure theres none left in there.
