Yeh but RAW files are just that... raw files. If you sharpen and re-input them to Photomatix they are still just the un-sharpened RAW file you had before. The sharpen part is saved in an "xmp" file which says "Apply 20% sharpening to RAW file IMG_2056" - the
actual RAW file IMG_2056 will still be the same.
So, which is why I say you input RAW files and then export a tiff, which is high quality (not a lossy format), and then use the tiff in photoshop and use sharpening like an Unsharp mask to get what you want
