Hi reyrob619, in my experience ive had no problems at all using this method. The Herptek is actually designed to hold the ceramics there and protect the snakes from burning themselves. The beauty of the design is the snake cant actually coil up and around it as if you were using a bulb cage like the large majority of normal wooden vivariums. Only thing i will say though is i only ever used a 100W ceramic on my herptek as i heard from others that the 150W's get the plastic too hot and have supposedly melted some parts of the Herptek- whether this is 100% true i dont know but i personally didnt want to take the risk, the 100W ceramic im sure however will be plenty to heat the viv to the temeratures you require fora royal!

I didnt really have too much problem with keeping the temperature up and mine was the 4 foot version so im sure yours will be easy to keep up to temperature!

Hope this is of some help to you!

Hey, I have checked out some of your threads, and realized that you also use herptek vivariums. I have the 90x60x50 herptek vivarium, and just recently got a 100watt zoomed ceramic heat bulb. I was wondering if it is ok to place this ceramic heatbulb (in its dome) straight onto the (cut out) mesh section? Will the mesh not get way to hot and be dangerous for snake contact? Ive seen that you have had ceramics and other heat bulbs on the metal mesh area, and was wondering what your expierence is with that? Have you also had to (tape off) some of your vents in the vivarium to keep the air temp up? Im getting a Ball python btw
