Default BD or Leo???

Hi all, I've bought a vx 36 Vivarium and am in the process of kitting it out.

I am building a background for it out of polystyrene & grout etc.

Planning to use live plants at the minute but might use fake ones as their are some really good ones out there although i can't find a shop that sells all the ones i like, i would prefer to get them all from one place if i do go for fake for simplicity's sake.

So my first question is does anybody know of any stockists of the full 'Hobby' range or a wide variety of desert type plants?

I have kept Leopard Gecko's before but gave them back to the pet shop in after 6 months because i never saw them, they were always hiding and only came out at night. I have read that once acclimatised they are quite friendly and active occaisionally during the day and sometimes sleep in the open.

I also like Bearded dragons as they are diurnal but not sure which to go for. I would buy a larger viv when BD grows to big for the one i have at present. I have read books about both species and am really struggling to make my mind up! Any comments or ideas welcome???

Sorry for the essay!

Luke

Thumbs up

I think it is all down to preference, Dragons have awesome personalities and being diurnal they are nice and active during the day. Mine sits with me at night and watches family guy The dragons do need slightly more expense put to them as they get bigger they eat a lot more and require bigger enclosures and UVB etc but i have no regrets and now have a 4x2x2 next to my TV Dragons are amazing and make great pets

I find with geckos they can become quite reclined and if given the chance they will sit in their hide day and night, i used to have a big snake hide in my leo tank but after removing it they got active overnight, exploring the tank. they are cheaper and you can happily house a couple geckos in a Vx36,

So here it is

Geckos
Pros=
Much cheaper in the long run
Some very nice morphs
Easily tamed and handled
Cons=
Can often hide and not be seen for days
If your not carefull their tail will come off

Dragons
Pros=
Wicked personality
Again some nice morphs but can get expensive
Easily Tamed and handled
Cons=
Higher cost and young dragons decimate crickets
Due to size they need big areas to wander in and exercise

Conclusion
It is completely up to you, i couldnt decide so i got both

Whatever decision you make im sure you will love your scaly little friend

I think you've answered your own question really. Even friendly leos won't be out and about much during the day as they are nocturnal. They may laze around in full view but if your wanting something more to interact with your better off with a beardie.

Many on-line reptile shops will sell a selection of plants, I usually buy my stuff from livefoods.co.uk

Lol the anoles are cool, there quite small tho only about 3-4" at moment, and they are ridiculous quick, its a bugger trying to catch them so i can clean the tank lol . its nice watching them change colours n jump around the tank, they can stick to the glass as well which is cool :L i got mine when i got the frogs so couldn't suggest a decent place to get them :/
