Question Hibernating snakes?

Hi, I am looking into getting a Honduras Milk snake and do they need to be hibernated in the winter, if so, how would I go about doing it?
Thanks,
Dan.

Hi there Dan,

Firstly, good choice in terms of the snake. Milksnakes are brilliant snakes, especially the Hondurans.

Brumation is only usually done if you are looking into breeding them. If so, They should be left to digest any meals, so the stomach is empty, and slowly reduce the temperture to around 15 Degrees. They should not be fed in this period, but have water available. Then after a couple of months (Dont have the exact time on hand) slowly increase the temperture.

So if I just had it for the sakes of a pet I wouldn't need to hibernate it?

Cool, I have done a lot of reasearch but I like to be sure, do you know any good care sheets just so I can be sure? Oh yeah also, they don't need a moist hide right?
Thanks.

Do they need a moist hide if they have a large water bowl to bath in?

I usually find the milksnakes tend to be okay with humidity, A water bowl big enough for them to soak in should be provided. Otherwise, I just mist/spray with water while the snakes are in shed.
