Default Hi, newbie here

Hi!

I have a leopard gecko. I am not sure what gender yet, but I know s/he is roughly 6mths old! He is doing really well (or so it seems), is quite friendly (asks to come out ;-) ), and is happy to explore it's viv.

My question is this: I am using a heat mat with a Mat Stat and just recently the heat on light has started flashing. If I adjust the dial to just above or below the desired temp (30c) it is either on or off, but not blinking. It's not a pulse sat, so not sure what it is doing!! Have looked online, but haven't yet found any clue as to what's wrong. The mat is still warm, and the in viv thermometer (digital) reads a stable temp! I do know that my daughter has found the fused switch that controls the plug sockets for the viv (it is unfortunate where it is, but not a thing we chose or did iyswim), and keeps turing it on and off (on a couple of occassions).

Any ideas?

Sorry to ask such a bizarre question on my first posting!!

Thanks in advance!

Nicky

Sounds like a bad connection. Check the plug if your daughter has been tugging at it.
Alternatively take the whole thing out and try it outside the confines of the viv while gently wiggling the wires around and watching the power light.

Hiya, welcome!

It sounds like a faulty/broken stat to me.

I would replace it just in case it fails to control the temp one day and over heats.

And make sure your daughter can't tug on it anymore

MANY THANKS! (oops sorry). She can't reach the cables, just the power switch (don't ask... the switch is no where near the cables, very odd config in our house). It seems to be functioning again, but will bear what you say in mind. Supposed to have a 5yr guarantee but can't see *power turned on and off* as being covered ;-)

I don't seem to have much luck with heat mats/stats. The first mat (not on a viv mind) burnt out!
