What you are suggesting sound ok to me. They would survive for a few weeks at 23 degrees C but would eventually suffer from the constant high temperatures. 23 is at the very top of their temperature range.

Tbh honest with you mate, I doubt whether the manager will pay much attention to their proper requirements. It`s worth a try, but I bet he`ll be more concerned with selling them before they pop their clogs - especially with it being a garden centre.

True, but I'll give it a try. Problem I've got is its the only place near me that gets the Japanese FB newts in stock. One other place offered to do a 'one off' order for some but for a minimum quantity of eight. I only want three or four.

are they japanese or chinese fire bellys, studys show japanese have a higher tollerance to high temps than chinese therefore are less likely to have any lasting negaltive effects if kept at higher temps for a short amount of time. both shouldnt have any permentent negalive effects from being kept at 23C for a few weeks but japanese are more likely to ride it out better than chinese
but they should be fine as long as long as u give them time to adjust Last edited by spend_day; 12-02-2009 at 06:10 PM.. |
