Not sure if this has been discussed before, but anyone else noticed their Reptiles respond to Musical Instruments?
Basically I'll walk into my room, none of my animals will so much as give me a second thought, don't notice if I talk, etc, etc. However the minute I start playing guitar, wether it be a high pitched song or a low pitched one, they'll all look up and sometimes even come up to the glass and look at me. I tried this with a Keyboard, no response, then with an actual Piano and again they looked up at what was happening. And with regular Music through a stereo there was no response either.
Any ideas why this might be, the fact that electrical sounds weren't noticed but Acoustic ones were might have something to do with it?

When you play music or have anything up loud, it causes vibrations to be sent through the vivariums. The snakes are very well adapted to picking up vibrations through the ventral scales as this is how a snake "hears", through ground vibration.
When playing music loudly however, the snake interperets these vibrations as an earthquake and will try to escape vigorously. When it cant escape the snake can become very stressed.
It is never a good idea to play loud music around the tanks because of this reason, it puts the animals under stress they shouldnt have to go through. I would suggest that you play your guitar in another room, but that is your choice.

I only play my Acoustic in my room, so I wouldn't imagine it'd be too loud, no more loud than me talking to someone. I also don't have the snake in my room when I play, so hopefully I've never stressed it.
Actually now that you mentioned that, I'll make sure not to have the snake near any music, it has been a few times when going through to other rooms and I did notice she got a bit tense. I appreciate the suggestion.
With my Geckos and Salamanders they do hear me playing, however their interest is never alert or scared, they just seem intriuged and come up to the glass for a look.

Yeah lizards have ears so I would imagine they would interperet it differently, snakes can only sense vibration which can be easily confused
I see. Always wondered wether Snakes could hear or not...
Nah, they just pick up vibrations from the ground through the vent/belly scales. Its their form of hearing, if a mouse is walking past they can "hear" the footprints on the ground. Similar to how a scorpino works except a scorpion uses hairs
