Wink Need help choosing !!!

ive recently aquired about a 62x30x45h fish tank that used to house marine fish. Im having trouble choosing a new pet and need help. The main problem is that my parents dont like the thought of feeding it mice and my dad thinks that snakes are boring>

so if anybody has anything to say to change my dads mind and any thoughts of pets i could have that would be really helpful

oh yh i also have 2 leopard geckos so i have a little bit f experience in reptiles and we have a neibour that used to keep a snake so i dont think they would mind feeding it while we were away.

I've just bought a beardie, their entertaining and easy and fairly cheap to keep. They get my vote!

Hi

I have 1 royal and my Dad also thinks she's the most boring thing he's ever seen, he's always in my house when she's asleep during the day.

Feeding her mice isn't that bad....you get used to it.

Upside of keeping her (and I have no other reptile experience to compare) is that she's fun to handle, has beautiful markings and seeing her peeking out of her hide every night is very cute.

Watching her move is amazing, watching her feed (a bit gross I guess) but still amazing nonetheless.

She's a cracking wee pet and we love her to bits, my 9 year old has finally got the nerve up to handling her a little bit too so it's been fun for all of use and we've learned a whole bunch of stuff about snakes as a result.

My daughter even managed to do a little talk on snakes at school....all I can say is get one

That said, now we're interested we're also thinking of a beardie or a Chinese Water Dragon as I'm told they're really good fun.

Mashed

if you're planning on keeping it in that tank i'd suggest a couple of whites tree frogs as it's not big enough for 85% of reps.

My OH Has A Garter Snake, And It Is More Than A LIttle Tempermental And A Flighty Little Git :P He Is Lovely All The Same, But You Will Need To Keep An Eye On Him Cos They Are Quick Movers
Hope This Helps x

egg eating snakes can be pretty tricky... its difficult to get them to feed and unless your experienced in tube or force feeding snakes its probably not a good idea. If your mum has problems with dead mice in the freezer (god knows my mother did when i used to live there..) then you can just buy a mouse from a local shop once a week and feed it that day. Although if you explain to her its no different than having hacked up bits of cow/sheep in there and its in a sealed container she should relax a little... (mine did... especially after i got her a bottle of gin the same day i bought my snake collection home for a fortnight while i was moving house... hehe)

although that fish tank will really not be big enough for most species of snake, how about something like a hognose? these are rear fanged snakes but they have one hell of a personality and a male will rarely reach 2ft long so you could happily house him in there. they are very active daytime snakes and i love my little chap
