im looking at getting either geckos or preferably an iguana, i have a juwel 180 tank at the moment , and want to know what i would need to get the tank in order. i know that with an iguana it would soon out grow the tank, and am more than prepared to build a bigger enviroment for it, the iggys in the locla pet store are only about 7-8 inches long so the tank will do it for a short while, until it need s the bigger space, plz could you herlp me

Green iguanas grow to massive sizes and will eventually need a home-made terrarium 6 feet long, 30 inches wide and 6 feet high. Do you honestly have the space for an iguana of this size. Iguanas are also quite hard to tame and very time-consuming. Take a look at Melissa Kaplan's Green Iguana Care Collection and http://www.greenigsociety.org/credentials.htm.

There are also a couple of smaller iguanas currently in the pet trade that are much less time-consuming and space-consuming to keep; the desert iguana, Dipsosaurus dorsalis, and the Honduran club-tailed iguana (aka dwarf spiny-tailed iguana), Ctenosaur quinquecarinata. The former needs a 75-gallon terrarium and the latter needs only a 40-gal, and both make good introductions to iguana keeping. I would recommend you purchase one of these before you get your green iggy.

Hope this helps

when i got my iggy he was 10 inches within a month he had shot up to 22 inches so i have around 6 months to get him a new viv if he keeps growing at this pace,

i must admit i bought him as my first reptile and now im getting 2 beardies tomorrow (i do this a**e from elbow my mum says) and i agree they are very time consuming and hard to tame, freddy has ripped my hands to shreds just by scratches there beginning to scar already (although i don't mind i fully expected it)

hi there,
if you have done your proper research and know what to expect and what your ig will expect from you, then go for it.

the problem arises when people take on these beautiful animals without knowing the bigger picture and then end up giving them away . when. surprise surprise they have grown quite large. etc etc. or when they dont spend much time witht hem and wonder why there ig never calms with them.

oooh well it is a nasty bad ig. bo****ks. research research and patience.

good luck.

Green iggys need allot of work, people see this big green lizard on TV that is very tame and think i'll get one but they are hard work and you need allot of patience! It takes a certain person to be able to own one you must love the species, have patience, have experience with tempermental animals and want to stick with this lizard. i have a green iggy shes around 2.5ft long and around 2 years old and she will whip me any chance she has! but after a while she will settle down. I hope you have done proper research because believe me reading care sheets about these is not enough to describe how much work they take! take peopels words for it on here! My iggy has a whole room to herself and sleeps in a 2ft viv LOL they need allot of room. Good luck with this find out as much as you can
