Hi, First post / Rankins advice!

Hi,

I am looking to get a single young Rankins dragon within the next few weeks, but am doing as much research as possible beforehand. My friend is letting me have her 3x2x2 vivarium in september, but atm, I have an old 24" wide 15" high 12" deep fish tank. Would this be large enough to last the dragon until september?

Any advice on the best online places to go for the accessories would be much appreciated too!

Just a couple of other questions, as I have been given conflicting advice.. Do I need a heat mat for the glass tank? My friend says so but I have read elsewhere not to, and also I thought it was essential to get a thermostat but again, someone else said there is no need so long as you get your temps correct to start with!?

Ive always been told never to use a heat matt with beardies as they feel heat from above not below and can burn there bellys, as long as you have a heat spot which gets a basking temp between 105f and 115f and a cool end of 80f, thats fine. I use a thermostat to control the temp but if you can control them without then you dont need one, but bare in mind how cold you home gets in the winter, Oh and obviously you need a UV strip

while people are on the subject what is the minimum size enclosure for a rankins dragon??
3ft x 1.5 x 1.5??
or would that suit a pair??
