Default materials

Hello all ive got a little yemen chameleon (Willow) and just bought her a shiney new viv 4 foot high 3 foot wide a 1 and a half foot deep,
i have been looking at the all the pics of peoples vivs.ive been trying to make a water fall feature but dont now wot materials would be best can any one help???
ive noticed people using polystyrene, varnish, swiming pool grout and resin are these used cos easy to get hold off or because of proven history.
im just a bit worried about poisoning my chemeleon.
is there any special makes of these matirials i should look out for ??.
