Default Thermostats, Thermometers, Humidity Testers

Hi guys n girls,

I class myself as a newbie even though i used to own a corn snake a few years ago but i would rather start from scratch and learn all the basics. I was just wondering if anyone can recommend some decent thermostats, thermometers and humidity tester that arent mega expensive.

Also if anyone has any tips or things i should get for looking after a Columbian Rainbow Boa.

Thanks Dan

For a thermostat I use a Habistat pulse stat, can't fault it really, was only £35 Rainforest Reptile Supplies -Live Food, Dry Food, Frozen Food, Lighting, Heating, Vivariums, Equipment, and More

Thanks for the reply. Are that type of thermostat (the one you have listed above) better than the other pulse ones that you have to use a small screwdriver to adjust them? Do the screwdriver adjustment ones have settings for day and settings for night? Ideally i would like one that has but if they do not does this type of thermostat exist?

Hi, do you need a thermostat that dims a bulb? If so you will need a dimming thermostat. The pulse one is for a heatmat. Apparently the Habistat ones are the most reliable, and they don't just switch off the light then back on but dim and brighten, so it's not a shock to the reptile. This is the cheapest I have seen them Habistat Dimming Thermostat If you want day/night ones they have them here Reptilekeeping The online Reptile Shop, Selling Livefoods Reptile Accessories and Equipment. hope this helps you decide.

For a corn snake I would say that you don't need a hygrometer (humidity gauge) as they are perfectly happy in the normal household humidity. As for the type of stat it comes down to the type of bulb you are using. If you are using a light emitting bulb then avoid pulse stats at the light will be constantly flicking on and off. If you are using a ceramic bulb or similar then both pulse and dimming stats are fine. If using a heat mat then a simple on/off stat is fine and cheaper. As for which make I would say that habistat and microclimate are equally as good but microclimate tend to be cheaper.
