Question New reptile

I have been keeping reptiles and amphibs since the age of eight. I have kept alot of them but generaly I have stayed to the small animals. Recently, I started to want a larger lizard and I thought about getting a iggy. I went to the specialist and they said they were horrible and nasty. Now I am a little bit confused because everywhere I look on the Internet it says they are absolute darlings. The specialist also recomended a blue tongued skink or a Bosc monitor. I still think I would prefer the iguana. I know this is not a noob question but I need help. I am also on a tight budget. Thanks.

I don't know a lot about iggys but if you can handle one at a very young age I suppose it can be tame. I think a lot of people are apprehensive because they can whip with their tails and cause horrific damage with their claws without meaning to because they get so big. I have a scar from an iguana scratch when I was handling a friendly male that belongs to a friend. When they're aggressive they can be very nasty and you can get injured easily if too close. Plus they need the space to be housed comfortably. I have no idea about prices either, sorry

If you are short on cash then any big lizard is going to be expensive to keep. A fully grown iggy needs a viv about 6 x 6 x 4 ft. minimum - which don't come cheap. Then this has to be heated obviously, and food / vet costs can also be high.
They can be tamed with a lot of time and effort and can make great pets but defo not for anyone without plenty of time and money.

Thanks, I have researched all about iggys, so the specialist talking about them biting your face of made me think. Dad and the sp. both agreed on a blue tongued skink. Do any of you guys have one?
