Default advice

why is there so much conflicting advice?, i bought a set up yesterday 4ft viv ,150w spot bulb, uvb tube 10.0, heat mat approx 23'', and habistat dimming stat for the bulb, the problem is that the temps dont add up, the advice given to me by the seller is that set dimmer to 84-86*f, hot end day time should be 95-110*f, cool end 70*f daytime, hot end 75*f nighttime, cool end 65*f nightime.
the heatmat is on constant 24hrs, spot controlled by dimmer 12hrs on/off, uv 12hrson/off (both timed), at the moment temps are cool end 78.1*f, hot end 83.1*f, in the day coolend temp was around 80 and hot end 96 approx, the spot bulb came on a while but most of the time was very dim.

now i'm new to this and i'm getting quite frustrated by it, i'm supposed to pick up my baby beard tomorrow but i'm worried about the temps.
am i being an idiot or what?
some helpful simple advice needed please!

Turn the stat up, and then start adjusting temps according to a reading from a thermometer.
Also this time of year you should not nead any heating on at night

Yes i would.
As for temps young beardies require the high temp as a basking spot, drop it for older ones

ok heatmat unplugged, temps are dropping but cool end is reading 76.6, hot end 79
but don't you still have to maintain the gradient during the night?

Unless your house is very cold at night, then room temp is ok. These animals come from areas that are very hot during the day and cold at night. Turn the stat up until the basking spot temp is 110 for your baby.

hi yes turn up the dimmer statand check the temps keep turning up the stat till you get them right sometimes you my need to move the probe around to get them correct forget about the heatmat take it back if possible as you do not need it
at night bearded dragons can survive temps of 60f and lower i use a ceramic bulb if temps drop below that at night during the winter
i also use a 100watt bulb from B&Q its a household reflector type these do the same job to heat the viv but are a quarter of the price in my vivs and they are 4 x 2 x 2
