I used to keep them , they love damp conditions and egg shells and avocado, I had so many babies from them I ended up giving them all away to the local pet store!

It depends on what gal you keep.

This care sheet would be best for the A.Fulica.

Any snail lovers out there join "petsnails" or "supersnails"

Petsnails is run by a guy who has registed a snail or something posh like that, he's well known by all snail breeders and keepers.

I've been also working on a care sheet for snails will add mine up when I'm finished.

I am going to get them a bigger tank (especially if I decide to keep some of the babies). The substrate is coconut coir. I have also had them on an aquatic compost but I did not like that; it was so messy. The coconut coir gets a bit water logged after a while but if you put the tank (storage box) on its side then youi can drain the water off.

stephanie, the snails in the second pic look really funky!

When a snail hibernates you should never peel the seel it makes, run them under warm water and let them come out, sometimes it can harm the snail.

Smile safe plants for gals?

I have 1 Gals at the moment and for a while had around 100 babies but have given them away over the yrs to as many people as I can find to take one or even two. I have had him/her for 5 yrs now.

Recently I realized how sparse his tank is and I'd like to put some live plants in there for him, I know I will have to replace them often as he will eat them, But I realised I don't know which plants are safe for him and which ones are not?

I have googled for a safe plants list for Gals but couldn't find one? does any one have any ideas for safe, cheap plants I can get in the UK?

Default Brian who lives ALONE has 60 baby snails!!!!

I am new to the world of GALS, I rescued Brian (I am of that age where a snail would be called Brian); he was a much neglected pet of a little boy i know.

Had him since November, he is huge now, over a year old. He eats better than I do! He has been on his own for over a year yet he has had 60 eggs, all hatched. He is still laying the odd couple even now.

Is it possible that he could have mated when he was very young and been 'holding on to them' until now. I understand it takes two even though Brian has both sex organs I am sure he didn't do it himself.

So I have set up a new tank for him, it is his third, at what age or size can the young join him. They are in a plastic lunch box with holes in, inside Brians tank.

Always glad of any advice.
