Allow me to explain a little, the reason you do not see many borzois around is because the breeders do not let them go to just anyone, i started my borzoi quest over a year before we was accepted as future parents for him, we visited the breeder a few times before thier was any mentoin of puppies, we just wanted to go and see the breed in person, and learn as much as we could off of the breeder, she was very accomodating and helped us understand the future needs of our puppy, i had done all my research on the breed, but after all id learnt i had no idea how much time and understanding he needed as a puppy, they do not act like normal puppies at all, sure within his own home and garden he was fine but beyond that was extremely demandeing on us, i dont mean this in a bad or negative way, cuz we loved him, he was totaly anxoiuse about everything and everyone in the world around him and needed Me to protect and reassure him, my customers and other poeple, freinds and family could not understand why he didnt run up to them in a rage of wagging playfully licking wave of excitement as normal puppies do, not the borzoi, they decide when and if they come to see you, if they dont, it doesnt mean they dont like you, but they will remember they met you and might then come say hello the next time you see them, it was a hard senario for most to grasp, as ive worked as a groomer for over 23 yrs, this has given me a great understanding and experience with dogs, which luckily for us, gave the breeder confidence in letting us have one of her puppies, im pleased to say that just over a year now he is a wonderfull dog, and we have learned not to force anything with him, poeple are still suprised that he shys away on first contact, but ppl that met him as pup see a huge difference in his confidence now, the borzois confidence grows very slowely, we couldnt simply take him to the park, as getting him there was far to stressfull for him, i know most puppies are afraid of traffic, people, traffic, other dogs etc, but for the borzoi it takes id say 3 times as long to accept these things......the little Jack Russel we have, he'd follow her off a cliff......he is completly devoted to her and looks for her guidance, he follows her, hes is for sure a follower, is shes behind hel just wait for her to take the lead, bless him looking at thier obvoise difference in size, its quite endearing to see......tho i have instilled a sence of indipendence in him, by taking him out alone and to work, so that he knows to be with out her is ok, tho he is quite different when shes not there, not to the point of anxiety, but he is looking for her the whole time.
oh dear i seem to have waffled on a lil bit here.......apologise....

oh and i might add, hes slightly taller than the english standard, as his dad is from america, both his parents have many CC's

Still a lovely breed I miss having a dog in my household are they like greyhounds or are they more active dogs? Saw one of these couple of years ago when I was 13 a rarely seen or mentioned breed.

its hard to say ive never owned a greyhound, but his need for excersice is a must, we know when he needs a good run, and OOOHHHH MY WORD can he run....at great speed and with great stamina, hence his ancestorial history hunting wolves......he needs to do it id say 3 to 4 times a week, hes walked every day, but he needs to sprint, we can tell when he needs it, hes like a coiled spring......we are keen hikers but the borzoi is not a dog you can take up a mountian......the terrain can be a dangerouse place for him, for obviose reasons....we used to take the lab and the jack r but now we have to carefully plan a walk with him in mind....

Aww he's lovely. Never really looked into the breed before, so never realised how different they are to other dogs. Beautiful dogs though.
