Default Few questions about Hamsters & Small Exotic Mammals :)

I'm just making this post out of interest at the moment to be honest...

I kept and bred hamsters for a few years when I was younger (keeping around 50 campbells dwarfs and 7 syrians at the same time at one point) and am now looking into getting a few again in the near future...although not for definate yet.

I have a 4' glass tank spare currently which is actually for sale, but I'm now thinking of using it for campbells etc.

Firsly I would like to know if there are any breeders I could be reccommended for Campbells Dwarf hamsters...either in the Lancs/Manchester area, or local to Cumbria.

Ideally I would like to pick stock from a decent bloodline, and preferably from tame parents. If I do decide to get any, it won't be a huge number...just a small breeding group.

Secondly...I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a mammal that would be suited to keeping in a parrot type cage. I know relatively little about exotic mammals...

My parents were forced to sell on one of their parrots earlier this year and now have a spare cage (please see link below for design/type)...

New York Bird Cage - UK Parrot Cages

We don't have the space in our house; but I have been wondering if this sort of cage would be suitable for species such as sugar gliders etc. Obviously the rungs are too widely spaced for chipmunks (which I wouldn't keep in a cage anyway!)...but you see what I mean; just interested.

Many thanks for any help in advance!

Well, that cage is too small for sugar gliders *wink* You could add shelves and it would be great for a couple rats... Erm... Will have a think about what would like that cage. But my brain isn't working at the moment.

Lol...rats would get out in a shot, straight between the bars...

I'm not intending on putting anything in it, at least not for a good while yet...we don't have the space...but I am interested in what you could house in a cage that size, mammal wise.

thanks

dependin on what the bar spacin is on the cage, male rats are very big. so im sure if you get a few older male that would be fine

good idea would be to take in some rescue male rats (no babies tho) im sure theres alot of adult ratties on here that would love that cage

Chinchilla? I used to keep mine in a bird cage - admittedly with a bit more width.

If there are plenty of perches/levels to hop on they would love it though!
