Default conures

Hello all,
i have had bruce, my white-eared conure now for 6 months , so he will be around the 9 month age, starting to talk, great chap silly silly tame.
If i over time introduce a female to him, will he stop talking as i remember been told this years ago, as they have each other for company and not the handler?
not somehting i am doing this year maybe next when hes older or not at all depending on the answer.

it shouldn't stop him talking. parrots mimic so if you still talk to him, he'll still mimic you.

Was he hand reared and bonded to you?

It's a tough one really, if you go to work all day, and leave 2 birds in a cage, they will build a relationship, and bond together. If you are spending your day with them both, and his bond is still with you, and the new bird bonds with you, then it should not be a problem - it's all about how much attention & interaction you will still give the bird.

My GCC I had for 3 years before introducing her mate. She tolerated him but her favourite remained firmly me and having another bird around never broke that bond, it provided a bit of entertainment when I was not there, but she was always waiting for me to return. The male on the other hand was tolerant of me, but the female was definitely his favourite, because I bought him for her, and never really put the same level of interaction in with him.

As for talking, well I should imagine he will talk as long as he is trying to copy you, which he will continually do if you are perceieved as his mate

Lovely little conure there!

He will still talk & should still remain friendly with you if you introduce a friend.

I have a Sun Conure & a Black-Headed caique in the same cage. Both birds are hand-reared & extremely tame. They are very bonded to each other & the Caique regurgitates food to the Sun Conure. They are still both great with me & I have no problems with them at all.

I also have a Galah Cockatoo & a Blue-Fronted Amazon in the same cage. They are not bonded to each other, but get on. They are also both hand-reared & are both tame & friendly with me.
