What breed are you getting?

Our GSD was fairly easy to toilet train. We watched her like a hawk and took her outside the second she looked like she was going to the bathroom - never got angry or told her off if she had an accident but always praised her like crazy when she did it outside. In the night we had paper down and when she was 8 weeks old we would get up 3-4 times in the night to take her outside and praise her if she needed it.

That was all really, you have to be watching them all the time and give heaps of praise for going outside.

We also used to stand outside and if she hadn't gone first thing in the morning or last thing at night, we would just keep walking her to the grass and putting her down, sometimes at first staying out there for 30 mins before she actually did her business.

By 3 months she was almost fully house trained, and by 4 months she was totally house trained.

There were no special tricks to it for us, our trainer emphasised lots of praise and don't get angry because their just babies and mistakes do happen.

Other hints & tips - as soon as your pup has had their vaccinations get them sorted with some puppy parties and start puppy training as soon as you can - not so much for the training, but at that young age for the socialisation, which is really important. My pup was done her vaccinations by 12 weeks and straight off to puppy class 3 hours a week, and also went to the puppy parties organised by the local pets@home, some vets do puppy parties too.

Basic rules for toilet training any breed of dog are let them out as soon as they wake, eat, cry lol. Praise when they're doing their business where you want it doing, ignore any accidents otherwise they will start to associate you're bad mood with their toilet so will look for somewhere to hide and do it so you won't get cross with them.

I also use a 'trigger' word that tells the dog when you want them to go, so when they're at a show they'll do their business outside before we go in the ring rather than once we're showing. What word you use is upto you but I would suggest something that's not commonly used at home otherwise they go on command even if its not in their normal place.

my male husky and mal x husky male were easy to house train picked it up very quick but my springer and 2 girl huskies were a nightmare lol the rottie was already toilet trained though had a couple of accidents in the first few days learning boundries

best way is as already been mentioned take out every half hour wether they may need a wee or poo or not and stand with them a while

if pup has an accident just ignore it take pup outside and while pups outside clean the mess

just keep repeating this and eventually pup will get the idea that its to go outside especially if you praise him/her to high hell when they do go whoopsie outside

dont bother with puppy pads or newspaper as this just makes them think its ok to go inside then

if your going to use anything aid wise there is a spray you can get from pets at home that you spray in te yard or garden in areas you want your pup/dog to go toliet it does work as i used it with my girls

Default hi

dont use puppy pads
dont use news paper
let him sleep in a cage at night then first thing either walk or out in garden then feed and take for a walk if messes in house put out side
i have crate trained my 5 month old rottie pup and he is perfect no mess but when i used paper before it seemed to encourage him to do it in kitchen or anywhere else there was a news paper

not picking at what you said melinda but just to add if feeding before walking you need to wait half an hour to an hour or your putting your dog at risk of bloat and other tummy problems such as twisted bowel

when my gang have been feed they all know now they have to come lay down for an hour before any mad play or walks take place
