Default Help with kitten/cat litter training...

well Zingi was little trained when we got him, he has been brilliant, no mistakes
now he is going out, started off when we got him on a lead, then watching him in the garden, now, he does it himself, for a few hours at a time, so so so so scary, he is my baby. but its life i guess. he hasnt ventured to the road yet, which is great hopefully he wont go towards it. (unortunatly he isnt scared of loud noises at all, he grew up in the kitchen as a kitten (at night) with the fridge noise, the dishwasher, the washing machien etc etc) anyway, now he is going out side, how do we get him to start to poo/wee outside? any tips?

Gina

Put a bit of used litter on the soil where you want him to go.The scent of himself should make him confident enough to use outside(usually)

The way I've usually done it is to move the litter tray nearer to the catflap, then move the tray to outside the catflap, and eventually to wherever you want the cat to go, then as suggested a little bit of used litter on the soil and remove the tray completely.

In most cases though I've had the mother of my kittens as well, and they have always copied her. The couple of times that wasn't the case, and with my mum's and sister's cat's, we've had success with the moving tray method though.

I have a little kitten who was also litter trained when I got him and like urself was a little scared of letting him out

Personally I didnt do anything to encourage ozzy to go to the toilet outside, I just let him get confident enough by himself. I found that he was soon enough sprayin the garden to mark his territory.

Whether you encourage it or leave it to its natural course, it will come when your kitten is confident enough to spend copious amounts of time away from the vacinity of its litter tray

Wish you all the best on this
