Default few Q's on ferret kits..

right well

here we go..

my kits will NOT use the litter tray...ive tryed every litter i can think of, and they prefer to use there highest level as the loo. (ive even put the try up there and they just use the other side of the level!)
any ideas on how i can litter train them?
they are 9weeks old.

and

my kits baby teeth are comin out for there adult 1s, and they are chewin everything that comes near there mouths. and ideas on things to help them with the pain?

and

1 of my kits has been vets this mornin and she isnt puttin weight on.
does any1 no, any fatty foods that are ok for ferrets to have a few times a week, if not everyday?

thanks

xx

Hi there. Let them get used to using one place again for a few days and then when u put the litter tray there also put in some of the old muck. The smell of the old stuff should draw them to it again.

What has the vet said about the little one not putting on weight? Any good dry food will give them enough calories to increase their weight. Is it been kept by its self? If with others are u sure it is not getting bullied by the others and maybe not getting chance to eat.

Chewing on the dry food will help them with their teeth but there is nothing like a carcass diet to give them something to exercise their jaws on. Its each to their own on this one though. Either way they normally pass through this stage with no probs.

Are you feeding them meat?? Bone and cartilidge is a really good chew prop, it will also help the teeth come out quicker meat with all the fat and grissle on it will help fatten the skinny one and for your remaining toilet issue how old are they because i had all the same issues and then i converted the whole bottom level as a "loo", when i change the litter i dont wash out the bottom just the litter and they can still smell themselves. After a while habi takes over and you wont need the smell anymore. I still have the occasional accident but if you treat them like puppies they will get it eventually.

thanks for that.

yeh im feeding them meat, chicken etc etc.
and they are 9weeks old. (well lottie is 9week this weekend)

thanks for the litter tray tip will give that 1 a shot.

as for the vets, they said that she is just underweight, i think like you said she is getin bullied away from her food.
she is not, but when its food time and treat time i make sure she has a while on her own before i let kodie back in the cage with her.

shes growls at him when he goes near HER food (her food actually bein the treat i just gave to kodie coz she has already had hers)

for teething kits these are great Cheweasel 6 sampler pack chew toy with 6 different flavours but a bit pricey for the amount they get though for older ferrets those small crocodile dog chews are good.

if they are pooing else where pick up the poo and put it in the litter tray they will soon learn, for puttin on weight as said above raw meat on the bone with kibble avaliable 24 hours will do that are you feeding enough raw meat kits need it anything between 4 and 6 times a day (yes they will eat you out of house and home) with the theething/biting thing they are KITS they will only stop with constant handling and lots of telling no.

good luck...

I'm no expert as I have only just had three kits myself but I am giving them baby milk (Aptamil, the artificial breast milk my baby son has) and as many different types of meat as I can inc. kidneys, liver etc and whole prey when possible.

For teething, mine have tough rubber dog toys and ropes which seem to be working well.

I am not litter training mine so can't help there.
