I went to Training class with someone with a Black Cocker. Ever so sweet and clever. He has just got rid of him as he ate the kitchen, the bannister and the walls. I do believe it was the owners fault though

They're hunting dogs, they're designed to flush out birds for people to shoot. They will need a lot of exercise and will want a "job" to do - even if that's something like agility or flyball training.

Be careful with solid reds and blacks; they're known for "Cocker Rage" - a genetic tendency to have a possibly-epileptic disorder which causes them to flip out and attack.

My sister has a Cocker and he's lovely- he is quite bombastic but not a total menace lol
I recommend Cavalier King Charles Spaniels- I think they're the most well-behaved of all the spaniels.. and the're just completely awesome!

My ex's parents had a cocker spaniel. She was an absolute bugger when they first got her, and his mother refused to take my advice and give the dog a job to do. They soon ended up with many pieces of furniture destroyed, and considered getting rid of her. After weeks of mentioning training classes and agility with her she eventually caved, after seeing how well behaved Jelly Belly (nickname of the cocker ) was with me.

Don't get me wrong she loved a cuddle but she was also highly motivated. A game we found she loved was we'd hide a toy/piece of clothing with our scent on in the house/garden or out on walks. Then send her to find and retrieve it. She absolutely loved it.

I would never have described her as nuts. She was a lovely dog she just needed some stimulation.

ive got 2 orange roans and although they are nutty, they are the best dogs ever. the are easy to train and can go off the lead without buggering off.
they have never ever chewed any furniture or walls or anything, the worst thing one does is run off with socks and hide them in the garden.
1 is nuttier than the other and hates strangers, he wont stop barking if anyone comes round but thats partly my fault i should have trained him better lol
