Default What canI do with a lone male spiney mouse?

Hi all im after some suggestions on what to do with my male spiney mouse....I had a colony of 9....mum, dad and 7 babies.....however after seperating the boys and girls, the boys had a row and daddy mouse had part of his tail bitten off....We cleaned the wound and it has healed nicely.....BUT we had daddy in with another couple of boys and they won't leave his tail alone.....so we tried putting him back in with the mummy mouse and she does exactly the same.....she tries to eat the rest of his tail and he wont do anything about it.....So at the moment he is in a large enclosure by himself but i feel so sad as i know that spineys dont like being on thier own and he seems sad......

What can I do to make his life a bit happier for him...He;s got wheels, tubes, boxes etc but just seems so miserable on his own......Im just worried that by putting him with any of the other spineys is gonna cause him more damage than good but I dont wanna leave him to be sad and lonely......

Any suggestions???

Thanks
Debi

i had the same problem... but handt noticed for a day, but the others in the group just cleaned the tail of the little one that had lost a bit of it. i left him in there to check how it went, lol sat there watching them for about 2hrs!, and they were fine so was he, and hisn tail now has completly healed...

They are ok on their own if an injury has occoured until it heals, or you could try just putting one in with him and see how it gets on.
Spinys do tend to heal qucikly though so if you keep it dry and clean it should be fine soon... they are there own worst enimes though because as u said, if they do decide to keep attacking it (like your others) they will sometimes do it to themselvs which takes a bit longer to heal.

but yes, back to the point, if u just pay attention to it more than you would it wont feel too lonely and will be fine

Ty all. a bit of a sad ending to this one....Went to clean him out earlier and found him shaking uncontrollably, skin felt chilly to the touch and he was almost as tho he was unconcious but alive ( if u get my meaning) so whisked him to the vets and sadly he was pts....turns out although the wound had been cleaned and healed an internal infection had set in and the poor little man had had a stroke.....not sure when as he was fine early this morning but i feel REALLY bad now

At least he is at rest now but i will miss him loads......

Ty all for replying to this thread
