Default Rat Diet Advice

When extras are added into to dry food to make up the diet what kind of quantities do people give their rats fresh food ie friut veg protein (and treats dried fruit ect) to the ratio of museli and rat nuggets. i have seen many amounts advised on webpages but wanted some first hand advice thanks!

Mine get fresh food daily, the type depends on the diet (for example rat nuggets are very high fat, so I would avoid anything oily or fatty). I would estimate the ratio to be 80% dry to 20% fresh. I feed foods such as curly kale, chickpeas, tinned sardines (drained if in oil, but they prefer the ones in tomato sauce!), fruity yoghurt sometimes. I do give mine meats and fish as extras as my dry mix is entirely meat free (so I can basically control the quality of meat going in). You won't need to give as much protein foods as your mix has meats in already. As an occasional treat would be fine though.

i have a museli and i put a few meaty nuggets in as my most recent rat was on just the nuggets before i got her so i am not swaping straight away as advised and they get fresh food about that ratio- thanks! i didn't know you could give sardines! from what age can they have them?

They might give yours smelly farts, but they give mine a glossy coat and a great build

Mine get sardines a fair bit as kittens from 2 weeks old (along with other stuff like kale, porridge with lactol, eggs, etc). Then at about 12 weeks old I stop supplementing with as much protein, so they don't get them as often and they're an occasional treat after then.
