Exclamation Sleepy Hammie QUESTION

Hi
Quick question:
As you know we got a new boy hammie a couple of days ago, just got a quick question as don't want to get anything wrong.
Since we got the hamster two days ago, he has hardly come out of his house, he sticks head out but won't come out, i know he must of come out during the night as his food bowl was empty, should I be concerned? Are boys just lazy like rats? Or is he just nervous? Just concerned as my first ever hamster acted a bit like this when he had wet tail, so just want to make sure my hamster is okay!
Thanks
Carrie-Anne

Yeah but he comes out hardly at night either, or if he does he just goes around his house on the top of his cage, won't go down to the bottom.

hamsters are nocturnal. They sleep all day and wake up at night.

how do you know? He'll be active while you are fast asleep in the early hours.

Yeah, unless you've sat up ALL night and early morning watching him then you won't know.

He may just be nervous while your there

He'll just be getting used to his new surroundings! Soon he will be diving around that cage in the wee hours keeping you awake

I must hamster freaks because mine are out all times during the day as well.

They dont' really differentiate between day and night.

I agree your hamster is just settling though..

Where did you get him from though as there have been wettail problems in hamsters bought from P@H!!!!!

If you got him there just keep an eye on his rear end and if he looks wet or as if he has the runs he will need to go to the vet.

It depends on the individual hamster,

My Syrian, Houdini comes out as soon as he hears you talking and sqaubles up the side of the watter bottle and nudges the top of his cage, hence the name.

But my female syrian, Big Mama' only comes out realy when actually go into the cage but to be honest she's been rarther defensive latly due to her having her first litter.

Im sure in time he/she will begin to trust you..
