ave a look in the Livestock thread loads of chicken topics in there ask Pimp and fenwoman they have loads of experience.

the type of chicken all depends on how much space you have they need room to run about and find juicy worms, small yards are no good IMHO chickens are meant to have space

if you are just wanting a few for eggs and have the space why not get a couple of ex battery hens give them a life they havent had up to now.

My hens have a 6ft x 4ft shed to roost in an during the day they go out in the garden

Type of chicken,

What do you want them for? Pets? Layers? Meat? This will probably play a big part in deciding what type of chickens you want, check out the livestock thread theres loads of information on there.

Will you want adult ones or do you have an incubator to hatch them yourself? If you incubate them what will you do with any cockerels you get? They are very hard to rehome, especially now, can you eat them?

How much space do you have to give them?

i think the main use for them at this stage would be for eggs.

space wise, we have roughly a 10x10ft plot for a coop plus free run of a 35ft garden.

in the future, would probably like to get a cockerel and try to get a few chicks, but thats waaayyy in the future lol.

thanks for the reply

Ian

Hi Ian

Have you though about rescuing some ex battery hens then? Try the BHWT website which you can find in google and contact them, there great birds and your doing a good thing by rescuing them?
