Default Large Rat Cage?

Thought this might be the best place to ask. Any recommendations on a large rat cage and supplier? I done a lot of internet searching and currently looking at a tower type set up with 3-4 levels. Would be looking to house about 6 females.

Thanks for any tips etc.

I have a furret tower and its abotu 5ft by 2 and half foot wide its massive and currently houses 10 girls is 2 storey and can buy it for about £160 n probs less if you hunt around best bet is to google the cage name and look for suppliers and prices that way

Eeek dont buy rats from pet shops, having seen how these rats are raised and bred, they're best avoided (especially at that price!). If you want healthy rats with nice temperaments go to a reputable breeder - whereabouts are you, I might know of some?

As for big cages, I'd recommend the Brio aviaries, or if you can find an Explorer from somewhere other than Pet World Direct (eg Ebay?) they're an ok alternative. However, for 6 girls you could get away with a Critter 3, but I hate them with a vengeance - but they do have the benefit of being all metal (like the Brios).

How about a Tall Chinchilla?
Tall Chinchilla Cage - Small Animal Large Pet Rat Cage on eBay, also, Chinchillas, Pet Supplies, Home Garden (end time 05-Apr-09 15:11:45 BST)

Like a Brio, but a bit smaller - ok for up to 7 rats.

I've got one bad word against it....TRAYS! They're made of cheap plastic, and my girls ate theirs (yes, literally, ate them) in a matter of 2 months. If you're planning on having girls, better to pay for someone to make the metal trays, or avoid. The Ferret Nation is a good higher quality alternative if you can find it, but with 1" bar spacing it's not suitable for most girls.

Access is poor - doors should be bigger and central, trays are far too shallow for a decent layer of bedding (and it gets kicked out easily), they rust and smell quickly, and they're a nightmare to shower without completely dismantling.

Critter 2s I can cope with, 3s - shudder - not for me!
