if the animal has died of natural causes then i think its a good thing i would love 2 be able 2 afford to have all my pets done so i could keep them with me for life, the animal feels no pain its no longer there in a way, n i think its nice being able 2 see them still n go give them a cuddle.
however if the animal is killed just for the sake of being stuff then i think its totally wrong n sick n a waste of a life so u need 2 get some more choices on ur poll coz i think its a good thing but only if the animal has died of natural causes, or ur pet was im pain n suffering n had 2 be pts, so il vote when u change the poll lol

Its OK, as long as the animal died of natural causes/was PTS for good reason and wasn't killed for the purpose of taxidermy.

whilst I wouldn't personally like to have dead animals on display as 'ornaments' in my home, I haven't a problem per se with the art of taxidermy. Without it, we wouldn't be able to see (for instance) how things were years ago. IIRC in one of the London museums, (think it was the V&A) there are several specimens of dogs. I found them fascinating because the models were over a hundred years old and you could see how the breeds have changed to what we have today. For instance, the one I remember best is the old English sheepdog which looked nothing like the over hairy breed we know today.
Some of the cased displays from Victorian times are really attractive works of art with small animals in natural poses set in a 'natural' setting so you get a real snapshot of , for instance, a group of harvest mice, in among grasses, complete with little nest. Very interesting. Howvwer, my sister once bought a taxidermy cat at auction. Obviously someone's deceased pet, a big old tabby tom cat, and I'm afraid I did find that not very nice at all. I don't think I'd have any of my lot stuffed although I have threatened before now to "get the lot of you stuffed and mounted so I can have you around without all the mess and noise!!" ![]() I would find it a bit off putting if I visited someone and they had heads of dead creatures displayed on their wall. |

well i dont know what i make of it its kinda mingin but its also quite 'interestin' but i could never have one in my home esp not a pet as i would look at it and remember all the memories and cry about it lol
but i think that if it was in somebodie alses home i would be rather intreeged into it as its not a popular interest :p xoxo
