Default isn't this illegal??

A friend of mine took her kids to a fair that came to town recently and has told me that they were giving goldfish away as prizes. I thought this was made illegal years ago!
Was it?

If not, then it should be! She said she saw a group of kids aged about 10 or 11 with 3 between them...
It beggars belief. How can ANYONE give a child an animal like that?

Hmmmm when my daughter is wins at a board game next i'll send her to the petshop to get a budgie to bring home....

yeah, fish can still be won at fairs, its a shame for kids who win them and dont have a tank to put them in , let alone any fish food GRR...

Why would anyone pay £3 to try and win a goldfish. When there only £1 to buy from the aquatics shop. How are these stalls still going.

i remember when i was young and was taken to a fair with my family and my uncle won me a goldfish on one of the stalls. but we were responsible enough to know what winning a goldfish meant, and i kept it as pet for many years after. but i agree that many people dont look after the goldfish once its been won and how can it be that a child cant buy a pet from a petshop unless with an adult but they can win one at the fair? the law is strange in many ways

If the fairs at near you guys are like the fairs near me i would have thought that the people running them couldnt care less if its legal or not.

It really should be stopped though.
