Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't take my dog anywhere in the car if I couldn't have him with me where we went and I think its appauling that this has been allowed to happen to 2 animals, I'm just maybe thinking it was a terrible accident rather than neglect?

People are so quick to start shouting off, it was clearly mentioned a couple of times that the dogs were not in a police vehicle, they were in a private vehicle.

Everyone has said that nothig is gonna be done to the officers and it's gonna be kept hush hush. OPEN YOUR EYES, they have called in the RSPCA to head the investigation, they have spoke about it publicly and that top bod quoted how transparent the whole investigation will be.

I have just resigned from a 6 year service to the Met Police and beleive me there is very little covering up going on. How many of you are aware that each time a police car exceeds the speed limit and sets off a GATSO, the driver gets a ticket, they only get it squashed if they can justify the speed they were doing. City of London Police are always trying to stick the Met and BTP on for various driving offences. Sgt's checking vehicles for rubbish left in it so they can stick PC's on for it.

I know none of the above reates to the dog issue but its an example of what its realy like behind the scenes.

The politics drove me away from it, there is more back stabbing in the police than it appears you know.

I'm sure that the management will be looking at making an example of the officer concerened bt at the end of the day, it will be down to the CPS to decide whether it is worth going with and we all know what a useless bunch of they are.

I know many dog handlers and I can honestly say that they are the most passionate coppers you will meet and i'm sure that the officer in this case is totaly distraught about his stupidity, however, that does not excuse his actions and should be treated as anyone else in this situation.

I agree, I've met quite a few dog handlers and I know they love their dogs - never disputed that!

But the word 'stupidity' is right and there's no excuse for that - sorry!

That's why you think about it a select a window not near the dog.

But a the end of the day do you prefer a hurt dog that can be treated or a dead dog.

Can I point out here, that police dog handlers have to buy their own vans now, so surely if it is used as a dog van then it is more of a police vehicle than not.

Oh yes the wonderful RSPCA are involved, but the ICC have given Nottinghamshire police the authority to investigate the matter themselves. Some how I can't imagine that being transparent!

My husband works for the police and has for many years as a civvie, so I know they won't get off speeding offences very easily, as it used to be my hubby's job (not anymore). Though at the moment they (well the government!) has said they have to cut back on the civvie jobs, they cost too much!

CPS are bloody useless, I can't believe the amount of things my hubby has dealt with that they have decided to not take to court. Which I bet will happen to that dog handler. He should have the book thrown at him. They expect every dim wit in the street to know better than to leave a dog in the heat, so someone who works with dogs should have known better than to have them in a car/van

Having lived my whole life with GSD's, my own father being an RAF police dog handler and I can't begin to say how upset I have been today since I found out about this. I have looked at my girl so many times today and cried. My god, there are my dogs shut in the house with the air con on because I don't want them getting too hot! I wouldn't dream of taking them anywhere in the car the way the weather is.

As you rightly say, what a waste of a life - they were police dogs for God's sake, they should have been in the station with their handlers on a day like that!

I hope the handlers are sacked or at the very least demoted from the dog force!

My point was that, as police dogs, there was no reason why they should have been left in the car. 'Normal' dogs aren't always allowed in public buildings - they were working police dogs outside a police station and could easily have been taken in!

It was nothing to do with making a distinction between police dogs and any other dogs!
