Smile Marmoset Monkey Advice

Good Afternoon Folks, My First post in these forum's and I am looking for some advice.

I am in Talks with a dealer at the moment for a Marmoset Monkey and I have done some homework on these Little guy's, My question is does anyone on these forums own one (or more) and would you be able to give me some housing advice, I was going to Buy a Garden Shed 7x7 Foot and put a small hole in the side and match the 7x7 with an outdoor play area. Does anyone have picture's off what housing they have for small monkeys or care sheets that they could help me with?!?! I want to do this right and provide the best home for this little chap.

Thanks in advance

I think you are going to be told by every one that you need at least two, they are sociable and need company of their own kind

But lucky you if you do get some

We had them at college, they came from a lab that was either closing down or had finishes working with them (experimenting!) cant remember which but they went into a massive indoor/ outdoor enclosure but more importantly they were in a group.

To get one and keep it on its own, in my opinion, is beyond cruel. They are social creatures that need one another for company etc

I think if you must get such a species the least you can do it get a small group and research until your ears are smoking you cant take on any more information about them

Apologies if this seems rude but "some" research is not enough for any animal, let alone something as delicate and complex as a monkey. Really you should be doing literally years of research and preferably getting some experience working with them first. If you are still in the "care sheet" ( and BTW a care "sheet" is not enough to equip you to handle and care for a monkey of any sort) stage you are not ready to be buying. Too many of these animals suffer through well meaning owners that didnt know enough.

And as the others have said, you MUST have at least a pair of these animals.

Na it doesn't sound rude at all, all advice I appreciate. I was talking to the dealer and he mentioned that he is a breeder and if he thinks I would be ready to own one/some then he would be the judge off that, before he could say anymore I advised him I was no where near ready for ownership I was just in the research stage. Believe me from my research so far it will be another year + before I decide I am able to provide for them.

Thats good, I like to hear about responsible people interested in these animals, because usually its the people that shouldnt have them that want them lol. Theres a site called www.tskaexotics.co.uk if you havent visited them already, not sure if they are back online yet but they are very experienced in primate care and will probably be able to help you figure out what would be suitable for marms. You should contact them if they dont post on here!

Thanks for the advice Rum_Kitty, I would rather know about them to the very last detail before I purchase some.

I have been to that site before, someone just pm'd me a site with a forum all about marms so I am ready owners comments at the moment. The last thing I want is to go into this blinde.
