Default Multimammates cage question

Do multimammates have to be kept in glass tank and that's it? I have got 7 and have always keep them in a 18 inches length glass tank, but I want to upgrade their tank, like getting one of those Duna Mini or Duna Maix or Zoo Zone plastic cages, or even get a wire top cage like Freddy to keep them in. But if they would just chew through the bottom base, there's no point.

At the moment, I hang plastic tunnels and plant pots on the top, which they leave the toys alone for a few days and then will start to chew them up. So I am just constantly replacing them / tie them back to the lid. I have tried the toilet and kitchen rolls as well as tissuse boxes but they are not interested. They also have 2 wheels in there to play with, but when they get dirty, they just sleep in there instead.

Basically I just want their cage look nice, more than just a boring glass tank with some toys hanging up if they leave them alone. Is any plastic cage be okay please? Thanks.

The only problem with housing multis in anything other than glass is that unfortunately they are known to be notorious chewers, I've known single females chew themselves out of a breeding tub overnight before (my only saving grace was that she look her litter with her so was relitively easy to find.).

Honestly i wouldnt keep multi's is anything other than a glass tank with a mesh metal lid, they will chew out of anything given the chance. Same with gerbils really

You can make tanks look pretty though

Thanks.

Yes I am keeping them amuse in the glass tank, there are only so much I could hang up on the wire lid. Well they look happy enough to chew everything up after I hang everything up looking so pretty for them. I did think plastic base cage might not be possible because they have already chewed up 2 houses and lost count numbers of tunnels and tubes. May be I just get a bigger glass tank for them, so I can hang more things up on the lid for them to chew up within mins.

Also, i'd try not to put anything plastic in their cages (stick to wood and metal) as plastic is toxic in high amounts and because they constantly chew it it could very well harm them. My multi's and gerbils arent allowed anything plastic.

No I think I will give that a miss with the plastic cage now. Don't want to spend all night like last night trying to catch a baby rat. Multis I heard are harded to catch even mine seem tame enough to sit on my hands most of the time. But if one of them escaped, it might be a different story.

Oh I didn't know plastic has high amount of toxic. Their tunnels are all plastic although I have put wooden blocks in for them too. I might have to limit the plastic stuff in there now.

Yes, it's something about gerbils which I had donkey years ago that put me off. Probably it's their chewing too. But the multis have their innocent face expression and probably that's why they could get away with stuff.

You could do I suppose. First time one of your snakes did a "houdini" on you though theres a fair chance you breeding project would get eaten.

don't think he'd be able to eat them all in one go. want to get my royal on rats really but the multis were going cheap as my friend just had enough of breeding them, is it really hard to switch them?
