Default Clicker training - Willow style :-)

DNA test came back this week stating Willow is actually a boy, just as he finally perfects his 'Good girl! I'm a good girl! Pretty girl!', so we now have a gender-confused conure lol

Anyway - finally sat down with him for a few sessions this week to see what we thought of clicker training as just lately we've been getting a bit cheeky again - 'Actually I'm not going to step up when you ask, I think I'll go and sit on the shower rail where you can't reach me and poop on you when you try'.

He picked up the link between 'click = reward = got it right' straightaway. In fact he's made such a strong association between the click of the clicker and getting the treats that he thinks the clicker itself is the source of them (my fault for not keeping it out of view, but you try holding a bird, making a hand signal, clicking a clicker and giving a treat all the same time lol).

Well, tonight he decided to take matters into his own hands (or claws, or feet, or whatever) and STOLE THE CLICKER! He took it up onto his shelf in the office where he thinks I can't see him, and spend a good 20 minutes fiddling with it and chattering furiously whilst trying to get it to click, thinking that if he could get it to make the noise then a treat would appear. Obviously he couldn't (Opposable thumbs eh? Aren't we lucky ) and eventually threw a massive wobbly and chucked it on the floor . He sulked for a few minutes, then went and got it and looked at me as if to say 'Go on then'.

'Step up!'
Click!
'I'm a good girl!' - as he eats his treat
