Question So you've decided you want a dog??

PLEASE read this leaflet if you're considering buying a pedigree from a breeder.

It is a vital guide.

Also, before getting a dog - join a few dog forums and speak to dog owners about life with dogs.

Having a dog is a step away from having a child - a LOT more commitment than a reptile. A lifelong commitment to being a responsible owner and TRAINING your dog to be a good canine citizen.

I really want a dog I have thought about it alot I would love an Akita they are very independant dogs so you dont need to with them 24/7, they dont have a high exercise or food requirement and they are very protective which would make me feel safe when the OH is on late shifts at work or off fishing for the weekend. However I dont feel I could get a dog until I have a stable home ready for it, I want to own my own home before getting a dog.

But then to get my and to do this home myself and my partner would need to both be working and then there is the fact alot of people say if you both have jobs then you shouldnt have a dog, which I have always found werid because I feel the only way to afford a dog and any health issues that may arise would to be in empolyment. So I am not sure really few more years to think about it I suppose.

Unfortunatly even the best laid plans can change in a dogs lifetime. Granted it's best to have everything the way it should be before embarking on such a commitment, but even when things change, and sometimes for the worse, it doesnt mean you shouldnt have your dog, you just have to make adjustemts to acomodate their needs.

Like children. If everyone planned properly for them I doubt anyone would have them. xx

Always get insurance. Absolutely essential part of dog ownership - especially if you have a larger (or giant) breed. That's my advice for the day.

Not really we both need to be working full time living in London / Surrey the price of things are insane and mortgage prices are crazy. I want to be a zoo keeper and that doesnt pay much at all so yes both have to work full time jobs. But he already works shifts and I am sure I would end up working shifts as well so it might be that we can have a dog will have to wait and see.

Oooh I so miss my pointy dog. It's nearly the one year anniversary of her death, I still miss her so much.
