As some of you know, Blu collapsed at the weekend, clearly he'd hurt one of his front legs, but while he was checked over, he was initially diagnosed with a racing heartbeat (sign of dilated cardiomyopathy - common in danes and very very serious), and also arthritis and hip dysplasia. He's 6, nearly 7, so advancing in years.
Luckily today his heart rate had gone down a bit, still a bit fast so he's got an elderly heart but not DCM (phew), so we're very relieved. Turns out he's trapped a nerve in his shoulder/neck, the second vet confirmed he thinks he has hip dysplasia too, but he's now on pain relief. He's not a candidate for surgery, or even x-rays, as with his racing heart the vet refuses to put him under or even sedate him, as he's at high risk of dying under the anaesthetic.
So really in amongst that, it's good news - it's not cardiomyopathy so we've got him here for a long while yet - but his back end's going and he's very sore and very old for his age, so please send healing thoughts.
As you can see, he's enjoying his pain relief:
Edited to add: for those who had a good laugh at his weight, here's the shocker - he's no longer over 80kg, he's 66kg! Been a while since he was weighed, but still, that's pretty impressive considering he's been on a diet for yonks and usually puts on weight!
