Default Animal Planet Hero of the Year 2009 competition

This competition is in the final states of voting and you have 10 people to choose from.

No.6 is Scott Lope who is the director of Operations of "Big Cat Rescue" in Florida. Years ago when we were in Florida it was known as "Wild Life on Easy Street", but the name changed a few years later. His aim when starting out was to rescue big cats that had been bought as pets and then were no longer wanted. However, he rescues many other animals - you'll see a snake in his video and releases them if possible. He works hard not just for big cats but for all wild animals and their habitats.

My friend is the UK volunteer mentioned in his bio and she goes over every year and works with him and the cats and she cannot speak highly enough of his dedication and how hard he works.

This is a promotional video of him at work http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cvEIkkDpjE

And this is the site to vote Nominees 2009 : Hero of the Year : Animal Planet

You may of course read through and decide someone else is more deserving of your vote, depending on where your heart lies, but if you don't see a more worthwhile cause, please vote for Scott!

Oh yes, forgot to mention you can only vote once a day, but you can vote every day!!

My friend has just come back from America where she went for the final announcement which was made on American TV on the 18th December and Scott won with more votes than nearly all the rest put together!!!

So thank you Joe and anyone else who read this thread and voted for him.

Here's a little video of the cats getting their Christmas treats, just to show how well looked after they are!

Believe me what they've been doing there for years is wonderful!

So many daft Americans buy these big cats for 'pets' and then realise that they aren't pets at all and need to offload them and that's how the whole place came about.

It really is my friend's passion, so much so that she's put her Maine Coon breeding on hold (her other passion) for the last few years so that she can go out to Florida every year and volunteer there!
